OLA Duck Outdoor Playground

The Ola Duck Playground is built in the national 5A-level tourist attraction of Olympic Forest Park in Beijing, China, covering an area of 2,000 square meters. The Olympic Forest Park as the natural name card of Beijing City has dense forests, large areas of water and complete wetlands, and it has enough space for people and animals to share the city's green island. Relying on the rich local natural resources, the Ola Duck Playground is built into a friendly resort and living venue suitable for people of all ages.

Why Mallard Duck was chosen as a universal IP character？

Birds are known to be the only descendants of dinosaurs, with mallards being the most well-known It is the most eye-catching elf in the Olympic Forest Park.

In addition, the project location is located in the Olympic Forest Park, surrounded by forests and teeming with natural creatures, and the mallard is one of the animals in the Olympic Forest Park.Therefore, using the cute wild duck as an IP character can not only promote the protection of wild animals, but also reflect the characteristics of the Olympic Forest Park.

At the same time, the Cowboy Group tried to use fake birds to attract live birds, so that children can play with the birds and implant the seeds of love from an early age.

Moreover, Mallard, as the IP character of Ola Duck Playground, will lead players to perceive and gain the power of natural knowledge during play, and unconsciously feel the natural charm of Olympic Forest Park.

Design Concept and Design Layout

After the Cowboy Group chose the mallard duck as the design theme, the designers decided to create an outdoor theme park playground with a storyline. Therefore, the design and planning of the playground will be planned from four dimensions: reasonable spatial layout, meeting the needs of children of all ages, diversified play experiences, and theme stories incorporating local characteristics.

1. The reasonable space layout

For the project site with dense forest, Cowboy Group chose a vacant lot near the entrance to build the main equipment, which could not only prevent the original ecology from being destroyed but also ensure it is in the best viewing position, become one part of the entrance landscape, and attract more tourists entering the Ola Duck Playground.

2.Meet the needs of children of all ages

The playground is divided into five functional areas, including two multi-age play areas, a toddler play area and an elderly children's play area. Meanwhile, the Swing Area and Slide Playground Area consist of a composite age play area at the playground’s entrance, allowing the tourists to find an appropriate entertainment place quickly.

3. The diversified playing experience

There are many different types of outdoor play equipment in the playground, covering many different types of play functions, providing children with a diversified play experience and exercising their abilities in all aspects. 

4. The theme story integrating the local characteristics

When designing the Ola Duck Playground, Cowboy Group also conceived a complete story line to connect with the theme functional areas, so that the playground has its own life. The theme story line is as follows. The Ola Duck flew to the Olympic Forest Park where the lake is clear, and it happily swam and caught fish in the lake. Soon, the Ola Duck made a lot of duck friends. Here, the Ola Duck walked with Bucephala clangula, played with Mergus merganser, and sang and danced with its new friends on the lawn together. At last, the tired ducks came to the warm nest of shelduck to enjoy this pleasant leisure time.

Functional Partition and Matching Outdoor Playground Equipment

The Ola Duck Playground is composed of five functional areas, including the Ola Duck Slide Playground Area, Swings Area, Expansion Area, Water Play Area, and Sand Pit Area.The Ola Duck Playground according to the theme conducts a customized production and  is equipped with various outdoor playground equipment  in the five functional areas.

Meanwhile, the main building of the Ola Duck Slide Playground contains various types of plastic slides, climbing nets, trampolines, bird's nest swings, music house equipment, etc.In addition, the design of the main building of the Ola Duck Slide Playground is inspired by the scene of Ora Duck happily fishing in the water, extracting elements such as fish, ripples, water columns, and water towers. Furthermore, the bottom of the water tower is rippled in different shades of blue, and the top is a fish-shaped hollow design. Besides,the undulating floor paving also simulates the churning of waves.

At the same time, other areas are equipped with goldfish slides, duck hammocks, duck rocking horses, rock climbing points, loudspeaker equipment, swing combinations, rainbow expansion equipment, various water play equipment, customized stainless steel dyeing slides, etc.
